How to reduce bruising with fillers injections: Ask Dr. Hong

Dermal Fillers: Cannula vs. Needles

Cosmetic Dermal fillers are used to replace volume that’s been lost in the face as a result of ageing. Dermal fillers are safe and made from a substance that’s also found naturally in the body, and they add fullness to skin, reducing the appearance of folds and wrinkles. They offer fast results and can be combined with other treatments like PRP Facial treatment and BTL Exilis for complete facial rejuvenation.

While traditionally these fillers have always been injected using sharp tip needles, a new alternative to using needles is using blunt tipped cannulas to inject dermal fillers or known as dermal filler cannula which provides several benefits

Sharp tip needles use a very thin, short, sharp needle to inject dermal fillers. When using needles, multiple injection points are required, which can increase the risk of hitting a vein. If a vein is hit with a needle, there’s a higher chance of bruising after the procedure.

Along with pain and bruising, other risks that can occur, although they are rare, include skin irregularities post injection, infection at the injection site, and tissue death, and blindness which can occur when a filler is injected into a blood vessel by accident.

Cannulas have a hollow bore, just like needles, allowing the filler to pass through into the tissue. However, instead of having a sharp tip like needles, cannulas have a round, blunt end.

Therefore, this method is much safer and results with less bruising for dermal filler injections compared to using needles. Furthermore, it provides a natural and graceful look!

Intravenous Vitamin Therapy

Intravenous Vitamin Therapy

  • Intravenous vitamin therapy involves the administration of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients, such as amino acids, directly into the bloodstream in the form of a drip.

  • The IV method bypasses the digestive system, allowing delivery of greater quantities of nutrients and promoting maximal absorption. Orally administered vitamins can be inactivated in the digestive tract or poorly absorbed, and in high doses can cause unwanted side-effects such as abdominal cramps and nausea.

    BEAUTY

  • ‘True beauty from inside out’. This antioxidant packed infusion is a nutrient dense cocktail that supports strong healthy hair and nail growth, skin hydration and collagen formation. When nutrients are infused intravenously, your body absorbs 100% of the vitamins and Biotin immediately! This translates to improved hair and nail growth, strength and vitality as well as that coveted post-IV glow.

    PERFORMANCE

  • Fatigue and exhaustion is nearly constant state of weariness that develops over time and reduces your energy, motivation and concentration. Fatigue at this level impacts your emotional and psychological well-being.

    B COMPLEX

  • Our brain, nervous system, red blood cells, and DNA all require Vitamin B in its various forms to function normally. Deficiencies of several Vitamin B variations are associated with severe neurological disorders such as numbness, tingling in fingers and toes. A deficiency in these can also be the cause of fatigue, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and anaemia, and what some may call brain fog. This IV Vitamin B complex infusion contains a good dose of B vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, and B6. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Platelet Rich Plasma

  • Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) has been used for many years to facilitate wound healing and has also played an important role in orthopedics, plastic surgery, and dentistry. It is frequently used to expedite the healing of sports injuries. In recent years, PRP has been used to treat hair loss and has come to be recognized for its ability to improve skin quality.

  • PRP is a concentrate of blood, enriched in cells called platelets which have an important role in the blood clotting process. Platelets contain a number of natural growth factors. Once introduced into the skin the platelets release their growth factors which stimulate the production of collagen and enhance the blood supply to the treated area.

  • Dr. Hong Med Spa uses the PRP Kits system since the PRP produced is of the highest quality and with the optimal concentration of platelets for tissue regeneration and stimulation of hair growth.

  • PRP treatments are safe, natural and usually very well tolerated.

PRP for Hair Loss

  • Both men and women suffering from thinning hair to pattern baldness may benefit from treatment with PRP.  PRP contains many growth factors that stimulate the development of new hair follicles and improve the health of existing ones. We recommend doing 3-4 treatments, one month apart, with maintenance treatments semi-annually to prolong and maintain results. The earlier these treatments are started the better the outcome in terms of slowing the hair loss and stimulation of healthy hair growth.

  • Annual PRP treatments are also recommended as a maintenance treatment after hair transplantation.

PRP for Skin Rejuvenation

  • PRP has been used for facial rejuvenation throughout the world since 2006. It is especially valuable for treating fine lines around the eyes. We prefer to add PRP when treating the skin with microneedling, RadioFrequency (RF) and Ultrasound as it enhances the results. Similarly, PRP can effectively improve outcomes when used in combination with other treatments such as filler injections.

Non Surgical Temple Restoration

How temple dermal filler treatments can improve your face and make you feel younger

  • Your temples lie at the side of your face, just beside your eyes. The tail of your eyebrows finishes at the front of your temples, and the upper edge meets your forehead. During the ageing process, we all lose volume in our temples. A hollowing of the temples is a natural part of the ageing process. Soft tissue and bone dissolves while muscle and fascia (your connective tissues) change. This leads to less structural support in the temple area, which results in folds, wrinkles and volume loss.

  • Typically this process starts in your mid 20’s and will become more obvious in your 40’s. If you exercise regularly, eat well and run, it’s possible that the ageing process and the hollowing of your temple region has been exacerbated.

  • As you age, a hollowing out in the temple area can cause an appearance that looks similar to a ‘peanut’ – a wide forehead, narrow temples and narrow cheeks. But there is a solution; the volume in your temples can be replaced using dermal fillers.

How to treat the temples with dermal filler treatments

  • Dermal filler treatment is very effective for temple treatment.  With dermal filler injections we are able to revolumise and restore your temples. Due to Therapeutic Goods Administration rules, we can’t name any of the products we use.

  • Many dermal fillers are made from a clear gel composed of a substance that is naturally found in skin. Dermal fillers vary with viscosity, thickness, and longevity. We tend to use finer fillers in areas where your skin is fine and smoothness is critical, like your eye area and temple area.

  • Our dermal filler treatment for temples can be done with a blunt micro-cannula injection technique. A blunt micro-cannula temple filler technique involves a single puncture with a needle. This is passed through the top section of your outside eyebrow to a single point near the bone. We then inject dermal filler downwards to smooth and fill the area out.
